Dana--I have been sewing for 50+ years and NEVER had learned how to easily/correctly sew two ends of bias tape together! THANK YOU !! I LOVE YOUR IDEAS!
I am a beginner sewer, and I love your way of easy explaining and teaching, you are so cute; My great grandmother used your method of pin and sew over the pins on her machine. I also do it. Thanks for your videos.
To make my baby/child blankets I just buy (2) 50x60 fleece throw blankets from walmart for $2.50 +tax a piece and sew them together. One side usually has a pattern and the other is just a solid color
Exactly what I was looking for! I always come to your channel first because I almost always find a tutorial that I need. Thank Dana. You are the best! ✂️😍😍✂️ PS - Fast forward 4 years to 2021: I’m back again. I always check your channel for a tutorial. Lots of times more than once!!! Lol
Hi Dana do you recommend i wash my fleece material before i sew a blanket I Love your tutorials they are so easy to follow. Thank You. I would like to make one with a satin Binding . Do you have a tutorial for that.
I love your videos, you are a great teacher! Could you do some fancy dresses for young girls, my granddaughter will be 8 in April and I would love to make her a fabulous dress!
Can you make a video about Shirring like you would on a toddler dress?? Ive been trying to learn how to do it but I have a singer sewing machine with a top loader bobbin, and I still can’t figure out how to do it. :) I love how easy to follow your videos are! Thank you in advance Dana!
you make sewing looks so easy, however i wish you did more videos on standing totes with zippers, and interfacing or over the shoulder bags with D rings
Hi Dana.I like your videos a lot.I like your dress in this video. Can you please make one tutorial video on how to put drawstring on the waist of a dress. Will i need a bias tape for the waistline to use a casing for elastic?please guide me.Thanks a lot..
Congrats, Brittney! That's a fun idea. I do have a pattern for a hooded Beach Robe that works great made from toweling fabric, but it starts at 9m -- shop.madeeveryday.com/products/beach-robe
Just a question!! Plz help!!! New to sewing and trying to make a fleece blanket. I have regular fabric on top and fleece on bottom. But while sewing fleece is moving or stretching. What am I doing wrong?
It depends on how wide the fabric is that you purchase. If it's 45" wide, then I would get 1.25 yards, because that will be a 45"x45" square....but if the fabric is 55" wide or 60" wide, you could purchase more for a full square. But honestly, 45x45 is a great size for a receiving blanket :)
Micaela Miller your needle will break every once in a while....but for the most part, the needle just rolls over the pins. There are times when it's really nice to keep your pins in place to it holds everything together while you sew.
Hello!! I have a question, I Bought I think it might be jersey knit, it's super stretchy, kinda hard to work with. On one side it has the print and the other it's the faded part. Would it work if I sew 2 pieces together so I can get the print on both sides? I have about a yard of the fabric. And another 🙈 could I also sew biased tape around the knit? And should i use straight or zigzag if i could? Sorry if there is confusing haha I'm not very good at explaining things. 🙂 thanks & God bless.
Hi Karina, sure! you could make a double-sided blanket with two layers of fabric. Just sew it similar to my burp cloth video, leaving an opening and then turning the whole thing right side out.
I think it depends on the machine. We learned on old singer machines in high school school and we were able to sew over our perpendicular pins just fine (it was the way we were taught and never caused us problems). My beginner Brother machine would destroy a pin if I left it in. I haven’t tried with my upgraded Bernina.
You can try Joann or other fabric shops, or search online on Fabric.com, etc. But if you can't find Chenille, you can use terry cloth (towel fabric), or flannel, or minky.
+Miriam Caccavallo Yes, It's best to always wash/dry fabrics before sewing with them (unless using a specialty fabric, which recommends that you do NOT wash it). I have a book that goes through every type of fabric, their uses, and how to care for them, if you're interested. Here it is: www.amazon.com/Fabrics-A---Z-Essential-Choosing/dp/1584799560/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334208633&sr=8-1
+Erica Pheasant Hull It depends on the fabric. Woven fabrics, like standard quilting cottons will fray. But knit fabrics are created differently than wovens, so the threads actually don't fray, which is the beauty of sewing with knits. Knits will still shrink however if they're made from cotton (which most are). So you still want to pre-wash/dry. I talk more about how knits are put together in this video here: ruclips.net/video/kYI9AG7pORc/видео.html
Certain shots were not looking at the camera, quite a lot do that am by no means an expert but it looks a little bit unprofessional......oh love the blanket!
MADE Everyday Have you!!?? I was serious - thought maybe you were an actress too!!! So funny!! Specifically the Jan in the newer Brady Movie. So funny. They say everyone has a twin!!!
hahaha. YES. That's the one that people have asked me about...the new Brady movie. But no, I've never acted in a real film before. I've worked on a few!...but more behind-the-scenes stuff :) - Dana

Cute video. Very easy to follow. Thank You
When sewing over pins you stand the chance of throwing your sewing machine out of timing! Other than that...Great job! :-)
Perfect tutorial!!! Btw, I simply adore your dress!!!! Did you make it yourself?!?! Huge thanks from Brazil! I´m a big fan of your work!
You honestly deserve more subscribers

So cute! I love it! So I can really find that kind of knit fabric at any old fabric store? And just look for a bolt that says "interlock"?
Jennifer DeVries Most stores like Joann fabrics, fabric.com, etc will carry it.
What exact bias tape do you use? I am looking on the spotlight website and there is so many!
Wow! You are Amazing!!😀😄😊
Just made one for my baby due in 3 months with a matching hat!
Thanks you make it look simple
Did you use a specific kind of needle for the knit??
fleece is a soft fabric that can be used as a blanket. Its kind of thick to be used as a receiving blanket.
Can you do one for a hooded baby towel I’m using all your tips since I am expecting. I want to make a hooded towel for baby. Thank you!
Congrats, Brittney! That's a fun idea. I do have a pattern for a hooded Beach Robe that works great made from toweling fabric, but it starts at 9m -- shop.madeeveryday.com/products/beach-robe

How much fabric would you recommend as a "large square"? Thanks!
Won't you sewing machine break if it hits the pins when you sew over them??? My mom said it will... So why do you do it

Tina Freethy Take it easy, Tina!

Can you please do a video on how to make kids flannelette pj's
What type of fabric would I use to make a baby blanket for the colder months?
You could use minky, seems to work well. For even more warmth can back your fabric with minky then go around with bias
Thanks! :)
grazie!! bellissimo!
what stich did you use?
Could u show how to sew grocery bags thank u
Where did you get that dress? Love it
bekery78 Forever 21! :) - Dana
please be careful sewing over pins one of these days the needle will hit the pin and you will harm yourself.
How would I do it with a print fabric
Nice video
Be careful while sewing over the pins because the needle may snap the pins and may fly up and cut you
its fine to sew over pins when theyre perpendicular :)
Jazzy- Kat You are so right! Don't ever sew over any direction of pins. It's not safe. And could ruin your machine.
I think it depends on the machine. I'm literally blowing up every one of your videos but could you do some of those cute little rompers that people are charging $60 for on Etsy
Cute idea! Thanks for watching, Jenna :)

Your dress is gourgs
Please make more sewing tutorials. Maybe of how to sew more clothing.
You didn't show close up on the round corners putting the bias on my are NOT looking correct or nice looking
if i sew over the pins the needle will break.
If you pin it like Mrs Dana did it shouldn't
Angelee Mercado The pins will not break because your needle will brush off of them and go down into the fabric. You do run a risk of breaking your sewing needle, but it saves time to sew over them.....so do what works best for you! - Dana
